CIVL 104 History, Theory, and Criticism in Architecture and Design

This course exposes the student to architectural history in a sequence that is thematic and topical rather than chronological and discusses theory, methodology, technology, construction, building equipment systems and other fine arts and related fields. We will examine a range of architectural history from antiquity to art nouveau. The geographical area of study will involve western and non-western civilizations. The course is developed to encourage the student to think creatively about their own vision of architecture, taking what is taught and learned throughout history and applying it to their unique aesthetic. This class addresses the implications designers face.
