It involves the determination of proper sizes to satisfy strength and deformation requirements. The lecture is supplemented by problem solving sessions. In the laboratory, students perform ASTM testing and reporting on a chosen material, after which they design and construct a product to perform to given requirements using that material. Included in the course are data acquisition, analysis, and presentation methods using the latest software packages. Contact the Civil, Construction, Industrial and Mechanical Technologies department to confirm current software. Pre-requisite(s): MATH 165 Basic Calculus with Analytic Geometry ; MECT 105 Engineering Materials ; MECT 125 Statics and Dynamics with a grade of “C” or higher.
