EDUC 225 Children’s Literature, Language, And Literacy Development: Birth to Age 8In this course, students will explore the interaction between children’s literature, oral and written language acquisition, literacy skill development and cognition. Children’s literature will be analyzed and criteria for evaluating books, and literary experiences and literacy events for children will be discussed. Specifically, topics include oral language acquisition and development, strategies for support of language development (including second language and special needs), family literacy, emergent literacy teaching and
activities, and an introduction to word recognition theory and teaching practices. Students will also learn oral interpretation of children’s literature and story sharing
