ESLS 100 Enhanced English Composition I for English as a Second Language Students

This course is designed to give students guided practice in critical reading, pre-writing, drafting, revising and editing essays. It offers an extra hour for necessary developmental writing instruction and individualized support toward the creation of college-level essays. In addition, intensive instruction will be given on those elements of English grammar and syntax that present difficulties for ESL students. Reading and writing content will focus on American life and culture. Collaboration in the writing process is stressed. Research techniques, library orientation and oral presentation of student writing are also included. Research paper required. Open only to non-native speakers of English.
NOTE: This course satisfies the English Composition I requirement. Credit can only be received for one of the following: ENGL 100 Enhanced English Composition I, ENGL 101 English Composition I, ENGL 107 Honors Composition I, ESLS 101 English Composition I for ESL Students or ESLS 100 Enhanced English Composition I for ESL Students.
