SOCL 112 Engaging Social Problems

Through instructor mentorship, this course will help students develop a deep knowledge of a particular social problem/civic issue that affects themselves, their community, their region, their state or the nation. Students will work with key stakeholders to define the problem as well as make use of the literature within the social sciences. They will research relevant solutions and determine the best solutions whether they be local, regional, state or national. They will determine best strategies and tactics in which they can affect social change at the appropriate level and execute those strategies and tactics. They will reflect on this experience, including their own growth, their understanding of social problems/civic issues, their experience working with key stakeholders, and their experience of working toward positive social change.
