The Medical Billing and Coding microcredential presents a best practices approach to medical billing and coding in the medical office. HITC 100  introduces the student to an electronic record system which is used in most medical practices to record the revenue cycle from patient registration to insurance claim appeals, if necessary. HITC 110  uses the AAPC certified professional coder (CPC) coding curriculum, which presents the necessary content to sit for the AAPC CPC certification exam. HITC 200   discusses the revenue cycle in the medical office, governmental and commercial third-party insurance carriers, coding compliance, different reimbursement methods as well as the skills needed to accurately fillout UB-04 and CMS-1500 claim forms. Credits earned in this program are directly applicable to the Health Information Management AAS degree program. The Medial Billing and Coding microcredential can be met through either full- or part-time study and through online offerings.
